This truck has what is widely considered the best engine (diesel or gas) ever put in a pickup truck. The 12 valve Cummins is far more reliable, longer-lasting, and efficient than all the gas engines available and the diesel International and Isuzu motors in Fords and GMs. There are Cummins Dodges advertised on Autotrader and ebay right now with 450+K miles, a lot with 300+K, and most have over 200K. Also, the vast majority are over $10 grand. 183K is a warm up for this motor. It is super clean, with no leaks, and no grease built up on it. The truck sat for about a month when we were waiting for the new transmission to arrive. When we went to start it, it fired right up and ran beautifully.
The interior is clean and generally in good shape. The trans, tires, and most of the engine accessories are, of course, new. If you don't really need 4 wheel drive, the 2WD powertrain is lighter, more reliable, rides better, and gets better mpg.
As far as the negatives go, the fuel gauge doesn't work. This is almost certainly a bad sending unit, a very common problem, and a $42 part. See: http://www.dodgeram.org/tech/repair/fuel_sender/sender-diy.htm. In the meantime, the odometer can be used to track fuel usage.
And the paint on the truck is a little beat up with a few small dents on the bed, but overall the body is straight and very solid. With a good paint job, this truck would look and drive great.
I bought this truck sort of impulsively in June, mainly because I was so surprised to find a Cummins Dodge with only 180K for under $12 grand. When I got it home, I realized I didn't really have space to park it, and I already have a full size Cummins Dodge. As much as I like them, I don't need two of these trucks. So, I decided to pass this one on. Then I noticed the transmission slipping; then the transission just sort of up and died. So, I've replaced the transmission, and for a couple grand, I'm back where I started.
I have to sell this truck. I have nowhere to put it. The neighbors are complaining....
$7,000 cash, non-negotiable, as-is.
If you are a flake, a tire-kicker, neurotic, unprepared to buy, or otherwise annoying, do not contact me. I'm losing my shirt on this truck; I don't need to deal with that on top of it.
